This service allows farmers to move animals across the country to their Destination Country. Origin should NOT have major Notifiable diseases for such livestock e.g. foot and mouth for cattle, Newcastle for chicken and African swine fever for pigs.

Individual farmers and groups can be assisted with purchasing of pesticides, fertilizers, packaging material, seedlings and seeds. All farmers cultivating a minimum of 0.5 hectares are eligible for farm inputs. In case of seedling (vegetables and fruits), mushroom and ornamental project, the size of the farm must be at least 0.25 hectares. This assistance will be available once a year, that is once every 12 months for a period of 3 years. The maximum ceiling is P120 000.00.

The minimum farm size for individuals and a group is 0.5 hectares and 2 hectares respectively. Individual farmers are expected to contribute 60% of the total cost of inputs while a group is expected to pay 40%. Purchasing of inputs and farm implement will be guided by the business plan.

Groups of farmers (syndicates) and individuals can apply for rehabilitation of hand dug wells or sand river wells to be used for livestock watering and irrigation purposes.

• The BAITS system provides a platform for farmers to provide information on their livestock.
• This platform is offered online (via internet access). BAITS is used for animal registration, transfer of ownership, arrival of livestock, veterinary drug treatments and removal of dead/fallen stock.
• This also allows the farmer to report in the system animals they have lost. Animals mabe lost due to natural causes or slaughter.

The Seed Multiplication Unit in the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security is mandated to certify seed lots under the Laws of Botswana and certification is limited to seed of officially recognized varieties, so grown and inspected, to protect varietal identity.

In accordance to the Diseases of Animals act CAP 37:01 Statutory Instrument No. 7 Botswana Animal information and Traceability system Regulations, all animals above six months of age should be identified with official combo-tags. These combo tags can be purchased by farmers at the following  Livestock Advisory Centres (LACs) across the country. Farmers in FMD zones will only purchase tags at district of origin.
