Registration for Hides and Skins Training

Overview

This service allows farmers who are interested in starting or doing tanning or leatherworks to register for free training on various aspects of hides and skins. 

Who is eligible?

Citizens 18 years and above. 

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the nearest District Animal Production Office animal production officer to register for the hides and skins training with the supporting documents.
  • The Animal Production Officer will inform the applicant about the start of training and other details.
What supporting documents are required?

Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang).

How long will this service take?

Takes a few minutes.

How much does it cost?

No cost.

Registration for Artificial Insemination Training

Overview

This service allows farmers to register for free training on Artificial Insemination (AI). It also includes registration for training for private farmers for the on-farm AI programme.

Who is eligible?

Farmers who practice Artificial Insemination and Inseminators who would like to be trained should have the following:

  • A valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • A Junior Certificate.
  • Knowledge about livestock production.
How do I get this service?
  • Visit the closest District Animal Production Offices and register for the training with the relevant supporting documents.
  • The Animal Production Officer will inform the applicant about the start of training and other details.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang).
  • Certified copy of Junior Certificate.
How long will this service take?

Immediate.

How much does it cost?

No cost.

Application for Training Services

Overview

The centres offer training services in all aspects of Crop Production, Animal Production, Marketing of Agricultural Produce, Agro-processing and Conservation of Natural Resources.

Farmers can register with the nearest Crop Production and Animal Production Extension Officer for the course of their choice and make agreements for commencement of training.

There are five Rural Training Centres in Botswana that offer training - Denman, Francistown, Southern, Ngamiland and Mahalapye Rural Training Centres.

Who is eligible?

Citizen farmers.

How do I get this service?

Contact the Agricultural Extension Officer at an Extension Area or District level for registration and training details.

What supporting documents are required?

Certified copy of valid National Identity Card (Omang).

How long will this service take?

Few minutes during registration. The duration of courses offered at these centres ranges from one (1)  to six (6) weeks.

How much does it cost?

No cost.

Bee Keeping Development Services

Overview

Beekeeping development is tasked to provide the following services:

  • Facilitate the establishment of beekeeping projects.
  • Transfer of technologies in order to maximize production and promote commercialisation of the beekeeping industries.
  • Conduct demonstrations, farm walks and field days to enhance technology adoption.
  • Assist the public to capture bees.
  • Appraise farmer's projects.
  • Facilitate formation of producer associations.
