Jwaneng Police Station
Jul 02, 2026

A public-private partnership has delivered the refurbished Jwaneng Police Station, saving the Government over P290,000 and setting a good precedent for collaborative development.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony this morning, Minister for State President, Defence and Security, Moeti Mohwasa emphasised that the project stands as “a powerful reminder that when Government, business, local authorities and communities work together, meaningful development becomes possible”.

The partnership brought together Debswana Jwaneng Mine, which invested P150,000 in upgrading police cells; Dulux Botswana, which contributed P140,000 worth of paint and materials while also providing technical training; Jwaneng Town Council; Jwaneng Technical College; and police officers themselves, who collectively donated P7,600.

According to quantity surveyor estimates, the Government would have spent more than P620,000 through conventional contracting. However, total partner contributions amounted to P328,786.30, realising a saving of over P291,000.

“This project demonstrates that strong partnerships not only deliver quality outcomes but also ensure greater value for public resources,” the Minister said.

Beyond the infrastructure, participants from the Ikageng Programme and Jwaneng Technical College will receive certificates from Dulux, leaving behind lasting skills that will benefit the community for years to come.

Minister Mohwasa called on other regions to emulate this model of cooperation, stressing that “building a better Botswana is not the responsibility of Government alone”. He added: “Progress is not defined by the size of our individual contributions, but by our willingness to work together for the common good.”

With improved working conditions, police officers in Jwaneng are expected to operate with renewed morale and efficiency, strengthening crime-fighting efforts across the region
