Issuance of plant, plant products import permit/phytosanitary certificate

Overview

This service allows/enables Importers and Exporters to import/export plant and plant products. The permit is administered through Plant Protection Act CAP35:02. To import/export plants, plant products you must apply for an import permit and a Phytosanitary certificate respectively issued by the Division of Plant Protection. For one to be issued a Phytosanitary certificate s/he must meet the import conditions of the importing country. The import permit is valid for 6 months and can be used for multiple entry. The Phytosanitary certificate is valid for 2 weeks and used for single entry only.

Who is eligible?
  • Individuals (citizens and non-citizens)
  • Registered company with Registrar of Companies for a Trading License
  • Registered business (Companies/Hawkers/Vendors)
How do I get this service?
  • Interested citizens and businesses are required to visit the nearest District Crop Production Office with relevant supporting documents.
  • Complete an application form to import the plant and plant products.
  • Forms can be completed and send via email to MoAPlantPermits [at] gov.bw.
  • Pay the prescribed fee physically or at the District Crop Production Office or electronically at the following banking details:

  • If paying electronically proof of payment is required before a permit or Phytosanitary certificate are issued.
  • For IMPORT of plant or plant product, provide the following details:
    • Name and address of importer (Physical or postal)
    • Name and address of exporter (Physical or postal
    • Quantities and type of plants or plant products to be imported
    • Port of entry
    • Mode of transport
  • The plant or plant products to be imported shall be inspected to ensure that they meet the import conditions.

  • Provide import permit from importing country
  • Apply for phytosanitary certificate
  • The plant or plant products to be exported shall be inspected to ensure that they meet the import conditions of the importing country
  • Proof of payment
  • Completed Application form

For plant and plant products on TRANSIT provide:

  • Permit from importing country
  • Phytosanitary certificate from exporting country if required by the importing country
  • Proof of payment
  • Completed Application form
How long will this service take?

Up to 14 working days. However clients advised to apply 2 weeks in advance

BDF Band Services

Overview

The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Band has two different groups, the Military Band, used for ceremonial or official purposes and the Dance Band, which is used for entertainment.  The dance band is the only available service for hire.

  • Corporate Entities
  • Non-Governmental Organisations
  • Charitable Organisations

Please note that we do not hire out the BDF Dance Band to individuals.

How do I get this service?

All eligible can request for the services of the BDF Band by writing a letter outlining the date, time and location of the performance requested

How long will this service take?

The turn around time for the response is one (1) week, and the response is done in writing.

How much does it cost?
  • Dance Band Services cost an initial flat rate of BWP750.00 for the first hour of performance and BWP 500.00 for each hour thereafter.
  • The charge is applicable to all areas however; engagements outside Gaborone and its periphery will attract extra logistical charges.

Use of National Emblems

Overview

This service is mainly a formal request to use the Flag and  the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Botswana by local companies, enterprises etc.

Who is eligible?

Companies, Organisations and other Independent Enterprises that are not part of Government of Botswana.

How do I get this service?

A formal Request  is sent to the Permanent Secretary to the President. The letter should include the Company Registration, Directors and clear mandate of the company, organisation etc.

What supporting documents are required?
  • Letter from the applicant bearing Postal Address, phone number and reasons for request
  • Certified Copy of valid national identity card from applicant
  • Company profile, for businesses
  • Copy of Company Registration/ Certificate of incorporation, samples and pictures indicating how the national symbol will be used.
  • Copy of Shareholders and Directors information.

A response is done in ten (10) days .

Sale of Animal Ear Tags

Overview

In accordance to the Diseases of Animals act CAP 37:01 Statutory Instrument No. 7 Botswana Animal information and Traceability system Regulations, all animals above six months of age should be identified with official combo-tags. These combo tags can be purchased by farmers at the following  Livestock Advisory Centres (LACs) across the country. Farmers in FMD zones will only purchase tags at district of origin.
